I loved the dramatic light one winter evening as I was driving by a farm on the 400. In hindsight, it was a bit risky and pretty cold to stop on the highway to take a photo, but I am pretty happy with the result!

Struttin'
I am pleased with this painting because I didn't use my usual grid to paint it, and trusted my eyes to get the proportions right, something I have been trying to achieve for a while. Drawing is so important when laying down a painting, and all the things that advanced artists tell you to do are true! Stand back from the painting, go away and come back to it with "new eyes" and squint. Now I feel a little braver, and I will trust my eyes more!
8x8" Oil on Raymar cotton panel
(I love these things - they have the nice resistance of canvas, and because they are mounted on a solid panel they don't have the annoying bounciness of stretched canvas.)

Daybreak
Early morning is my favorite time of day. It holds such wonderful potential.
This rural painting is from a photo that I took while driving through Ohio last fall. I live in a large city, so I love to drink in the countryside when I can.

My Best Side

This is my entry for the Daily Paintworks Chicken challenge. I love painting animals, and farm animals are among my favorites. I took a photo of this chicken on a farm out west. This critter seemed to be posing and showing me her best side. Really fun to paint!

Farm in August

While I was painting this, I so wanted to be there. The hot sun, the chirping birds are still in my mind, and it seems like heaven to me.
