Gulls on Ice

On several occasions this past winter (or what passed for a winter) when there was a thin layer of ice on a protected cove on Lake Ontario, I saw gulls standing on the ice. Sometimes, when it was sunny, there would be hundreds of them basking, preening, and hanging out together.

Laughing Gull

I am not sure what kind of gull this is, but I am told there are many kinds. This one I photographed on the beach in Hilton Head when I was at the wonderful Karin Jurick workshop last November. Just got around to painting it last week, and I will display it at my upcoming juried show, the Riverdale Art Walk in Toronto.

Shore Birds

At last, back to some painting again. My flu is more or less gone, and I have some energy.
These little shore birds I saw at Hilton Head in November were fascinating to watch. They didn't keep still for a moment!

Two Swans

Two swans feeding on Lake Ontario. Every once in a while they stretch their heads down to the lake floor, so all you can see is their bottoms in the air. So cute! They are lovely majestic animals.
