Barney

 I have been a big fan of Barney the West Coast Cockatoo, who I discovered at the beginning of the Covid lockdown. He is such a Mister Personality, and really cheered me up when ever I saw his Facebook posts, so of course I had to paint him!

Tim got the painting earlier this week, and gave it a place of honor! Have a look by clicking the blue link text above. I am so proud!

Dog Days

Play With Me

This is my stepson's sweet dog, Asia, who visits us from time to time. I love having her visits, she is such a nice presence in the house, especially since I lost my own dog Jade last November.

Fergus

One of 3 Boxer portraits that I have been commissioned to do.

Fergus was a wonderful girl that I walked for many years. She was sweet and good natured and loved to lie on her back and sun her belly. She passed away a few years ago, and her owners asked me to paint this picture.

Gulls on Ice2

These gulls look like they are standing on water, but there is a thin layer of ice on the lake, and some of the gulls catch some rays there on the last days of winter.

Storm Clearing

Facing west on Lakeshore Blvd. in Toronto, there was a dramatic clearing of a rainstorm. I couldn't resist photographing it. One day I will get in trouble for distracted driving!

Pork Pies

Many English people cherish their traditional foods. These British pork pies, and quite delicious. Painting from a photo, I unwisely started it before dinner, and was too distracted by my hunger to continue!

Whitby Shore

In England last summer, we went to Whitby on the east coast to have fish and chips. We also did some sightseeing, and the sky was magic.

University Sunset

Driving almost everywhere, I see scenes, people and all kinds of great material that I could use in paintings, and I often wish I could take a picture at that moment. Sometimes I do! I know it is distracted driving, but this scene was irresistible and traffic was at a standstill so I took a few shots. Westward facing at sunset is often so beautiful.

Derbyshire Countryside

On my trip to England with my husband last summer, we visited his son and daughter in law in Derbyshire. Exploring the countryside we came across so many beautiful scenes, but the sky there is so spectacular, it is the focus of many of my paintings (so far!).

Winter Twilight

I loved the dramatic light one winter evening as I was driving by a farm on the 400. In hindsight, it was a bit risky and pretty cold to stop on the highway to take a photo, but I am pretty happy with the result!

Over the Hill

An image from Bradgate Park in Leicester, which was the home of Lady Jane Grey, Queen of England for 9 days. She was executed in 1534 for treason at age 17.

I have started to sign my name Gillespie Singhera, as I was married in December to Rana Singhera.

Cows

The same cows as a previous post, done in more realistic colours. The day, as is frequently the case in England, was overcast, which created a flat quality. I usually like to have lots of modelling and shadows, but I kind of like the abstractness that the lighting created.
